A BB Cream with a Difference | Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream

Hi there Lovelies,

Hot off the press: Kiehl’s has launched the first ever Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50/PA +++. Because of the fact that is a correcting BB Cream, it’s a beauty industry advancement: it focuses on instant coverage, long-term correction and protection from the sun. Basically, Kiehl’s has created an entirely new product category.

  Kiehl's BB Cream

I apply this BB cream with my foundation brush, and it spreads easily enough, although it has a thicker consistency than that of foundation. It doesn’t smell too great though, but I’m willing to sacrifice the fragrance for skin irritating properties (you know the whole shtick – fragrance can cause irritation). This is a BB Cream, so remember that it doesn’t provide heavy coverage. I like the fact that while you wear it, it’s treating your skin at the same time. It lasts well throughout the day and didn’t cause any breakouts or cause my skin to look oily/shiny. It also provides broad-spectrum sun protection of SPF50, which is a huge bonus because I hate applying sunscreen. I know, I know, I’m a bad girl. I might be still holding onto those days when, as a kid, I was forced to smear the white stuff all over my face. I’m working on it.

The BB cream goes for a RRSP of R525 and these are the available shades, suited for South African skin tones:

The beauty of this BB Cream is that it forms part of a ‘correcting’ range, so I’ve been using it in conjunction with the Dermatologist Solutions Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution and I have definitely seen results, in as little as 1 week! I have a little spot that is somewhat lighter since I have been using this duo.

Included in this range is also a Micro Blur Skin Perfector primer. It’s touted as both a skincare as well as a makeup product (surprise surprise!). As a makeup product, it’s said to to “diminish the appearance of pores” and “refines skin texture“. As a skincare product, it “provides long-lasting pore and texture correction” and “In just four weeks, you’ll notice a significant reduction in the number and size of pores, more refined skin texture, as well as a reduction in fine lines.” Sign me up!

So how did it do?

I’m usually not crazy about using primers, because they tend to irritate my skin, and I also feel like they aren’t necessary on a daily basis, but I was intrigued by this skincare/makeup combination so was eager to try it out.It has a silky texture and creates a smoothing effect on the skin as it fills large pores and fine lines. It spreads fairly well on the skin and works well under makeup. It provides a natural-looking, sheer flesh-toned tint, and from the second you apply it, your skin looks like it’s been photoshopped. Another thing going for this primer is that it contains a smaller dose of silicon polymers, usually found in primers. On the down side, it my skin sting a bit, which isn’t really ideal, and could the from the alcohol found in this product. To see any benefit, you would have to apply it daily, and I’m not too keen on using it every day, so I can’t tell you if it makes a difference or not. Sorry, Lovelies :(

Available for R510 from Kiehl’s.
