Estée Lauder’s Little Black Primer

Let me just start off by saying that when I heard rumours of Estée Lauder’s Little Black Primer, I was SUPER excited. I love anything Lauder, and I feel like the brand has been made so much more accessible with the addition of model and TV personality Kendall Jenner as their newest face. Also, how cute is the name?

I love me a good primer. Why, you ask? For the simple reason that it keeps your mascara where it should be – on your lashes and not on your cheeks! The obvious difference about the Little Black Primer is that it’s black, while most, if not all, of its cousins and predecessors have been white.

What does it actually do?

The LBP is a smart multi-tasker and does three things: it acts as a tint to colour and define bare lashes (they even say you can wear it overnight), it amplifies as a primer and boosts volume and length to allow mascara to look its best and can also be used to turn your regular mascara into a waterproof mascara by setting it with the LBP (it acts as a long-wearing, water-resistant topcoat that helps reduce smudging and flaking).

How to use it

1) Apply it on bare lashes for a softer, more natural lash look. 2) Use with a lash curler and brush on as a lash primer under mascara. 3) Wear as a top coat to set mascara. The brush is easy to use and applies beautifully. I usually scrape a bit off (my tube is new so this will be a temporary measure) because if I don’t I find I end up applying a bit too much (which isn’t a good thing).

What do I think?

What makes this primer really stand out is that it’s black, so you don’t have to struggle with hiding the white spots. Sometimes white primer can be a bit tricksy in that you have to make sure its all covered, in order to avoid white ‘n weird lashes.

One coat of the LBP with one coat of Sumptuous Extreme

I have tried it in two of the ways, and I love it! On days when I’m going for a no makeup makeup look, I’ll apply a bit of BB cream, some subtle bronzer and this bad boy to my lashes. It really defines and gives them a boost, while looking super au naturel. It gives me great definition and colour without looking like I’m even wearing mascara. On days when my makeup game is strong, I’ll curl my lashes, use the LBP and finish off with a coat of Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara.

I love it because it looks exceptionally natural when worn alone and it primes your lashes so that your mascara (whichever you choose) can work its best*. I love the fact that it keeps my mascara in place for the whole day. Yes, the WHOLE day. No flaking or tired panda/raccoon eyes. The only thing that I’m not so mad about (but hey, you gotta take the rain with the rainbow) is that I can’t remove it with my regular makeup remover, I need to use the waterproof kind.

Would I buy again?: It’s so nice to have! (If lashes are your thing then you also probably need this in your arsenal)
Where to buy: Major department stores or online here.

* I have a secret to tell you, Lovelies: if you’re looking for budget-friendly luscious lashes, splurge on the LBP and then buy a ‘drugstore’ mascara. I’ve figured out that the LBP will amplify any mascara, and turn it into a long-wearing, non-flaking wonder.
