My Favourite Bronzer | Clarins Bronzing Duo

With a zillion brands and products out there, it’s difficult (not to mention overwhelming) to just know what the right product for your specific concerns are.  I have been there plenty times, and have tried countless boxes, compacts, tubes and bottles in the hopes of finding that perfect product. Today though, I’m talking bronzers: the magical powder that has the power to transform you into a glowing goddess or a less flattering orange/dirty version of yourself.

I have a fair skin, so it’s important that the bronzer I end up with isn’t going to be too dark – giving me that freshly applied ‘dirt-on-your-face’  look, or too orange, too shimmery or too chalky.

After the Kardashian Beauty Cabana Bronzer broke my skin out into big red bumps (which is perhaps due to the nasty Talc, Mica, Magnesium Stearate and Silica found in the bronzer) I promptly turfed it into the bin and went on a new search for the perfect bronzer. You know how they say you always find what you’re looking for? Well, somehow (I honestly don’t know how and no, I wasn’t drunk) I landed up at the Clarins counter one afternoon after a launch, and was presented with their offering of bronzers. The minute I saw and tested this Bronzing Duo, I knew it was the one (yes, I like to talk about beauty products as if they were men – you have to be selective, you know!).

Okay, so as I have mentioned, I have a fair skin and I also have a pink undertone. What does this mean? It means that the bronzer I wear can’t be too dark or too orange. For those of you with a pink undertone, wearing a bronzer with a hint of orange will make you look like the Oros man. Girls with a yellow undertone, knock yourselves out! That same orange that will make us look strange will actually help to provide you with that tanned glow.

On to the review…

Clarins’ bronzing duo blends complementary shades of sun for made-to-measure splendor. Guards against pollution with White Tea Extract. Fights free radicals with Crowberry and vitamin E. Delivers UVA/UVB protection with 100% mineral sun screens.

Because the Bronzing Duo contains two colours (a darker and a lighter bronze), it adds the perfect sun-kissed tinge to my face. Also, it makes it hard to over-apply, which I find quite common with a lot of bronzers. It is a buildable, believable colour that wakes up my complexion by adding a healthy glow. It provides the perfect amount of sheen as one side is matte and the other shimmery. There is nothing worse than a crazy sparkly bronzer. It comes beautifully presented in a substantial gold compact with a tortoiseshell lid and built in mirror, all encased in a velvet sleeve. Available in 3 colour options: 01 light, 02 medium and 03 dark.

This bronzer is a dream to apply, because the powder is densely packed and velvety, which means that there is zero fallout. As mentioned, the lighter side is matte, with the darker side being slightly shimmery.

It applies very smoothly and evenly with no streaky bits or chalkiness in sight. My favourite way to use it is with the two colours blended together. The deeper shade could be used for contouring, although this may not be ideal because of the slight shimmer. It has an SPF of 15 (every little helps!) and stays put all day long – I never need to touch it up, unless I attend an event at night. I honestly can’t fault this bronzer on any criterion!
