Beauty Lately | November

Hi Lovelies,

You probably love beauty a little bit more than the next girl (that’s why you read my blog), and you want to know what’s out there, what’s new and what’s launching soon. On that note, check out the latest products that are available this month…

Bionike Defence Body Extreme Definition Body Reshaping Day Treatment (you’ve already burnt 50 calories just saying the name!) is a silky emulsion that has a rich (but not greasy) texture that improves skin tone by treating localised fat deposits. The exclusive Top Define ComplexR contains seaweed to boost key metabolic elements to improve skin elasticity, smoothness and firmness and effectively helps to counter blemishes caused by localised fat deposits on the abdomen, hips, legs and arms. The combined action of the active ingredients included in the complex assists in the reduction of fat deposits by stimulating fluid drainage through massage. How to use? Apply twice daily to the affected areas by massaging it in, and you should start to see results within a couple of weeks. Want to take it a step further? Encourage the drainage process (via your bladder) by increasing your intake of good old H2O. Also, sweating is sexy (swexy) so get your workout gear on and get moving!

Available exclusively at Dis-Chem pharmacies nationwide for R195

Berry Bomb, Strike a Rose, Minty Sheer,  Pink Shock, Fierce & Tangy, Oh Orange

Following on the success of Baby Lips comes Maybelline Baby Lips Electro. Dubbed as 8 hour care with a neon kick, these tinted lip balms come in 6 variants. Of the 6, I like Pink Shock the most. It smells just like raspberries and leaves my lips the prettiest pink shade. I like wearing Pink Shock on days when I just want a sheer hint of colour, so for those of you hesitant to rock a full red or pink lip, why not start out with a wash of colour from Baby Lips? For my thoughts on the original Baby Lips, click here.

Available at selected Clicks, Dis-Chem, Foschini & Edgars stores for the RRSP of R29.95

Lancôme has released the third instalment in the La Vie Est Belle series – La vie est belle L’Absolu de Parfum – and it is beautiful! Lancôme launched La Vie Est Belle (Lancôme’s first gourmand iris) in 2012, which was followed by  La Vie Est Belle L’Eau de Toilette (Lancôme’s first gourmand magnolia) in 2014. Finally, La Vie Est Belle L’Absolu is launched, more intense and more luxurious than the previous ones. Described as a new exceptional olfactory signature, combining the flower of happiness, the Iris, with a delectable accord of gourmand ingredients. With notes of  black currant, pear, sweet iris, orange blossom, jasmine absolute, Damascus rose, tonka bean, praline and cashmere, La Vie Est Belle L’Absolu smells incredible! Decadently sweet, without being too overpowering. A full review is coming soon!

La Vie Est Belle retails for R1050 for the 40ml bottle

If you’re a fan of Vichy, you’ll be happy to know that they have launched 2 suncare BB creams – Vichy Capital Soleil BB Tinted Velvety Cream SPF 50+ and Vichy Capital Soleil BB Tinted Dry Touch Face Fluid SPF 50+. These BB creams offer very high sun protection thanks to a formula enriched with Mexoryl XL which helps to protect against sun damage, brown spots and sun induced premature skin ageing.

The Tinted Velvety Cream is for dry/sensitive skins and has a rich, soft, buttery texture, so it gives you that dewy look. I have dry skin with an oily T panel and found that this BB cream was a bit too oily for my liking. By 12:00 it looked as if my makeup was melting off. Granted, I was sightseeing  in sweltering Rome, so maybe that had something to do with it. Perhaps setting it with powder would do the trick? On the plus side, it delivers a shot of hydration thanks to everyone’s favourite ingredient, Hyaluronic Acid, alongside the Vichy Thermal Spa Water. The Hyaluronic Acid also helps the skin to appear plumper, smoother and softer. In addition to being a tinted sunscreen, it performs quite a few functions. Its boosts luminosity booster thanks to the long-UVA, it evens the skin and produces a radiant effect via the action of high-coverage pigments, smooths the skin thanks to silicone gum.

The Tinted Dry Touch Face Fluid is for combination to oily sensitive skin. It has a beautifully light yet silky texture that sinks into the skin really easily. It contains Vichy Thermal water that helps to soothe and fortify the skin. This formula is a bit more matte than the Velvety Cream, but I find that both of them transfer. This BB cream is also an multi-tasker in that it provides UVA-UVB protection, boosts luminosity thanks to the long UVA filter, it evens out skin and produces a radiant effect via the action of high-coverage pigments, and it mattifies the skin thanks to silica and corn starch.

Both have a gorgeous, light, summery fragrance and both feel amazingly comfortable on the skin. Being BB creams, they won’t meet your needs if you’re looking for a heavier coverage (they are basically tinted sunscreens). Another thing that I must mention is that if you don’t have reasonably tanned-slash-beige skin, these BB creams won’t suit you as they only come in one shade, ‘Natural Tan’. Sad face. If you’re looking to buy a tube, I would suggest that you try the colour out beforehand. If you are tanned and are looking for a sun protection product to perfect your skin and reveal your summer tan, then this is definitely a product worth trying.

You can find them at selected Dis-Chem, Clicks and Red Square stores at R279 a pop

MAC has collaborated with the gorgeous, legendary actress Brooke Shields for a new collection called (you guessed it!) the MAC Brooke Shields collection. Out of the entire truly gorgeous and wearable range, the MAC Gravitas Brooke Shields Eyeshadow Palette is my favourite. It includes fifteen eyeshadows that range from pale, white-beige to gold to various shades of brown, plum and matte black. The palette contains some permanent shades as well as some new shades. The palette retails for R1200 but before you reel from shock, it’s actually a reasonable price for 15 full eye shadows. If you had to buy each of them individually, the price would be much higher.

The MAC Gravitas Brooke Shields Eyeshadow Palette is sold out online, so be sure to check out a MAC store if you want to get your hands on one of these pretty palettes

body polisher

Not really new this month (but new to me!) and definitely worth mentioning is this amazing Body Polisher from the Body Shop. It can be used to replace your favourite loofah or shower pouf and works like a charm! It is more effective than a regular shower pouf because it is slightly more abrasive (but not too abrasive) which helps to exfoliate. I bought it to use while in Italy (because even though you are in a different country, your beauty regime doesn’t stop!) and was molto impressionato (very impressed for those who don’t speak Italian ;). Even though I am firmly back on South African soil, I will definitely repurchase this super shower accessory for 5 reasons: 1) it’s the best way to shower and exfoliate at the same time 2) it takes up very little space (so great for travel) 3) it can be used either scrunched up, like a sponge, to wash and exfoliate or it can be stretched out and used on hard to reach areas like your back 4) it dries in no time (also perfect for travel – no one likes a soggy anything when they’re travelling) and 5) it comes in a variety of different colours (colour is a very personal thing).

The Body Polisher is available from the Body Shop for R49 in aqua, orange, lilac, pink, cream, white and green
