Dinner with Zomato
Last week I was invited for dinner at Radisson Blu’s Central One Bar & Restaurant. It was an exquisite 5 course meal that was served at the Chef’s table in honour of the Zomato foodie app. Zomato is a Restaurant Finder app that gives you restaurant recommendations and lets you look at menus, pictures and maps. If you find yourself suddenly eager for a delicious pasta, enter the details of your craving into the Zomato app and boom! Just like that you will get results for great Italian places near where you are. It couldn’t be simpler or more user friendly. How many restaurants does Zomato have in it’s database? In the words of a Zomato foodie, ‘If it serves food and it has a name, it will be on Zomato”. The Zomato app is available on both iOS and Android.
Some interesting things you didn’t know about Zomato…
• Zomato is currently present in 8 countries: India, UAE, UK, the Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa. The Johannesburg section was launched in April 2013, followed by Cape Town in July. The Pretoria section will now be available to all web and mobile users. People who have the mobile app installed will be able to select Pretoria from the list of available cities without having to update the app.
• Zomato provides in-depth information such as scanned menus, mapped coordinates, contact details, pictures, user ratings, and reviews for over 118,000 restaurants worldwide. It covers over 4000 restaurants across Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Pretoria.
• With a combined web and mobile traffic of over 15 million users per month, Zomato is ranked among the top 2,500 websites in the world.
• Zomato has recently given its product a major overhaul by integrating social features deep into the product. This makes it the only vertical social network of its kind, based on a rich and credible content base. Users can choose a network of credible foodies & friends to follow, and get restaurant recommendations from them, or send one another direct messages to plan meals and get-togethers.
• Zomato plans to further expand its reach into continental Europe, the Middle East, South America and South-East Asia in this calendar year.
