Beat the Frizz with L’Oreal Elvive Keratin Straight

I love messy, beach wavy, textured hair. I also love sleek, manicured, polished hair.

L’Oreal Paris recently launched Elvive Keratin Straight 72H which promises to keep hair straight, supple, shiny and full of life for a whopping 72 hours! This promise is all due to double action, inside- and outside-the-hair-fiber ingredients like liquid keratin that fills each single strand and polishes the hair surface and black cumin oil that deeply vitalizes the hair fiber from within and makes it resistant to any kind of damage.

The shampoo and conditioner come in purple packaging, and smell insanely good. They perform like regular shampoos and conditioners, in that they lather just as well and go on as well. I usually wash my hair at night and then style the next morning because I find that if I wash and style all in the same morning, I have to contend with frizz and flyaways. I used the shampoo and conditioner yesterday morning, and my hair was gorgeous all day. Smooth, sleek, soft to the touch, straight and not a flyaway or frizzy hair in sight. It worked for a good full day, but when I woke up this morning, I had slept on my hair so I had kinks. I’d say overall it performs as it promises, but inevitably when you sleep, you’re going to mess your look up some.

The Keratin Straight Oil Replacement comes in a purple squeeze tube with a flip open cap. The directions are quite vague in that they suggest to spread evenly on your hair focusing on the lengths and the tips, massage it in then rinse. I decided to get creative and used it a few ways.

  • As a hair mask before you shower (apply a generous amount on dry hair – leave on for an hour and then then shampoo off)
  • As a treatment while you shower
  • As a leave-in conditioner (just remember to use sparingly as a little goes a long way)
  • As a blow dry serum (mix it with a little bit of water so that it’s not too heavy) and
  • As a finishing cream on dry hair.

TOP TIPS

My hair is fine in texture, but there’s a lot of it. It’s naturally wavy, but easy to blow dry straight and I always have flyaways. The first time I used this product as a leave-in conditioner, I overdid it, and it weighed my hair down. The second time, I diluted it by applying it to very wet hair and it worked much better. The overall result is silky hair that’s easy to style. The Keratin Straight Oil Replacement can make hair a little heavy and weigh it down, so especially for those of you with finer hair, water this product down some before using it and never use too much.

If you’re wondering whether to try this new range out, I’d say for the smell alone, it’s worth it. It has the most incredible smell, like a lavish, luxury perfume. It’s truly gorgeous. Every time I move my head I get a whiff of the beautiful scent, and that makes me happy.
I used to have unrealistic expectations from products and would usually end up disappointed. If you have frizzy hair that you would like to tame, give this range a try. While it’s not going to give you gorgeous, Pantene advert-worthy shiny hair, it will smooth your hair out, keep it that way and work to combat frizz.

The shampoo and conditioner (both 400 ml) retail for R69.95 and the Keratin Straight Oil Replacement for R84.95 (300 ml).
