If You Love Red Lipstick L’Oreal’s Pure Reds Collection Was Made For You

I’m not a fan of red clothing (I don’t own anything red), but I love it in makeup and  nails. If like me, you love a good red lip, your day/night/life is about to get a whole lot better…

Being fair skinned, I tend to go for cooler reds. Think Chanel Pirate, Lancome Be My Date, Rouge G de Guerlain in Garçonne, Nars Jungle Red, Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivids in On Fire Red… you get the idea.

L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Pure Reds is a star studded collection of gorgeous reds, featuring the perfect red for any women’s skin tone. From olive skinned and dark haired Eva Longoria and Jennifer Lopez, to tanned and blond Blake Lively and Doutzen Kroes, to darker skin tones like Frieda Pinto and Liya Kebede, to redheads like Julianne Moore and brunettes with paler skin like Laetitia Casta, there is a red for everyone.

The correct red should leave you feeling empowered, confident and sexy all at once whilst ultimately being something you choose to wear and not something that wears you. So, if you’ve got brown hair and olive skin, Eva’s bold red, which aims to create ‘urban chic brick red lips’, will suit you. If you’re blond and tanned, Blake’s matte lipstick will help create ‘the most iconic look’ on you. If you’re looking for a traditional red, Jennifer Lopez’s shade is a ruby red with cool undertones.

In deciding to review this collection, I chose the most unique shade, the shade that screamed “pick me”! I have a lot of red lipsticks, so was looking for something different. The shade that caught my eye was Frieda Pinto’s red.

The COLOUR: Freida Pinto’s shade is a ravishing balance of red and bright fuchsia. Even though it isn’t a classic red, it is still beautiful and definitely brightens up my face.

Let’s talk TEXTURE: It’s lightweight on the lips, very balmy and not at all drying. The finish is neither matte nor shiny, just a comfortable creaminess that’s all about the rich pigments.

PACKAGING: The lipstick comes in a matte, textured leather black casing with gold lettering of whoever’s lipstick it is (Eva’s, Blake’s, Doutzen’s).

How it WEARS: Frieda’s shade is amazingly long-lasting. After breakfast and 3 cups of tea later, it was still there. It also doesn’t bleed, which is a huge thing for me. It is intensely rich in colour payoff and 2 coats is enough to leave you with a perfectly pinky-red pout.

OVER ALL: I am so impressed with Frieda’s shade – it is such an unusual colour – and is so long-wearing and perfect on the lips. I love it! If you want a different take on the classic red lip, give this shade ago. When I want red, but I don’t want the signature red lip, I always go for this. It’s different enough to be unique, while also being a beautiful red. If that makes sense.
