Intense Body Moisturisers from Vichy & Avene | Review
Not all body creams are the same. You get lightweight formulas that quench your skin temporarily, relieving the dryness for a bit, and rich body butters that keep your skin nice and hydrated for quite a while. And then you get balms. Balms lovingly moisturise, hydrate, caress and bathe your skin in moisture for a long time. A very. Long. Time. Avène’s Akerat 10 Body Cream and La Roche Posay’s Lipikar Baume AP+ Intense Soothing Lipid-Replenishing Body Balm for Very Dry Skin (say that quickly) are two of these balms that work wonders on dry skins.
Avène’s Akerat Body Cream is for very dry and keratosis-prone skin and claims to nourish, hydrate and soothe the skin, leaving your skin feeling soft and supple. It’s fragrance-free and contains Avène Thermal Spring Water to soften skin. It isn’t suitable for children under the age of 3. Available at Clicks for around R250.
MY THOUGHTS
I found this cream to be super moisturising. Even though it says it’s a body cream, it performs like a balm. It has a thick, white consistency that applies well but leaves a sticky feeling once you’ve applied it. It’s kind of icky, but it moisturises skin so intensely, and my skin was hydrated for at least 24 hours. I really like the moisturisation factor that this cream has. I wouldn’t use it in summer, and tested it out by diluting it with a bit of natural tissue oil and a few spritzs of my Mac Fix Plus and it was transformed into a lighter version of itself.
