Marni by Marni
Right from the first spray its easy to tell that Marni is of a different breed to most designer fragrances. On top, the effects of the Marni Spice accord alternate between hot and cold, remaining aloft and effervescent. Cinnamon bark and cardamom are a pairing of hot and cool spicy notes, a two-toned duality that works like a boldly patterned print. Accents of crisp bergamot and earthy black pepper, pink peppercorn and ginger add facets of contrast and substance. The fragrance is a playful debate between extroverted assertiveness and elusive femininity. The Marni Rose accord creates the sensation of a thread of rose accenting the woody-spice structure like a lustrous accessory: drawing the senses in, adding a touch of vibrancy and unexpected detail. A woody pedestal of patchouli, vetiver and cedar that makes up the Marni Wood accord intertwines with the signature spices and rose to create a unique fragrance sculpture. A finish of incense adds unexpected depth, texture and a quirky whim that is unmistakably Marni.

The thing that caught my eye right away was the packaging, which is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric, and which is also good fun.

Marni is definitely not your average sweet and floral fragrance, and I applaud them for not going the easy-money route by creating a different, quirky and almost masculine fragrance.
