Now You Can Have Louboutin Nails

In 2012 it was annouced that Christian Louboutin would team up with Batallure Beauty to form Christian Louboutin Beauté. Fast forward to today, and the first beauty offering has just been launched! It should come as no surprise at all that the debut offering comes in the form of  a glossy, long-lasting and chip-resistant nail lacquer in a timeless and vibrant red, suited to any skin tone, and in the very same shade of red as the soles of every pair of Louboutin shoes.

The story of the red soles goes that Louboutin, looking for the perfect finishing touch for a prototype he had just created, spontaneously grabbed a nail polish from his assistant nearby who was mid-manicure and painted the soles with the shade which would become his signature. Now he wants to “give back to nails what the shoe took many years ago.”

Housed in a faceted glass bottle, Rouge Louboutin is topped with a dramatic “high heel” lid taking it to the same height  (20.5 centimetres) as Louboutin’s highest ever heels, the Ballerina Ultima shoes, shown above. The packaging doesn’t prove to be practical, but then again, when has Monsieur Louboutin every enjoyed a relationship with being practical? (He was once quoted as saying “My job is not to create comfortable shoes”.) The polish and its packaging are also said to have taken inspiration from the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris, with which the designer has enjoyed a longstanding relationship.

September sees the range expand to include 30 new polishes grouped into Nudes, Noirs and Pops as well as base and top coats. At a decadent R650 a bottle, Rouge Louboutin is sure to add something a little different to your beauty stash, whilst depleting your beauty budget somewhat. Sadly, as with his boutiques, Louboutin Beauté will not be available in South Africa. If you want to learn more, go here.
