Fashion trends come and go and this season, the military trend is back. This trend is perfect for Winter: think classic, gold-button coats, jackets and military inspired skinny jeans with black, navy and olive being the colour of choice. Updates for 2013 include streamlined skinny cargos, camouflage, and feminine, tailored jackets, as well as jerseys and shirts with interesting epaulette detailing. The military inspired trend can be worn in many different ways, from full on army to a touch of military with your handbag or jacket.

A few do’s and don’ts for commandeering this trend:

♥ Don’t wear the trend from top to bottom  – you want to look trendy, not like you are going to the actual army

♥ If you aren’t quite ready to commit, start small and go for a bag or accessory with military flair

♥ If you’ve got more than 2 military pieces on, keep the rest of your colours and accessories neutral

♥ Play in the same colour palette: if your military jacket is a deep navy with gold buttons, go with some black skinnies. If your jacket is beige or deep olive green, go with medium wash skinnies or skinny cargos

♥ This season’s military is about structure and fit. If your military parka isn’t form fitting, add a belt to give you some definition
