Crushing on Lush

While I was in  Umhlanga, I visited Gateway Mall and immediately fell in love with the Lush store. The Lush assistants were so enthusiastic, helpful, interactive, friendly and knowledgeable. I love good energy around a product. I spent a good 45 minutes in the store, testing and smelling their glorious and clever creations. Out of a plethora of amazing sounding and deliciously scented products, I eventually ended up with a body exfoliator called Rub, Rub, Rub, a soap that is also an exfoliator called You Snap the Whip and an intensely hydrating body moisturiser called Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner.

Rub, Rub, Rub – R220

Rub Rub Rub is a bit of a variation on the normal shower gel. Sea salt is gently exfoliating, extra cleansing and mineral-rich. After scrubbing, it dissolves in water, leaving your plughole free of blockages. This new blue scrub is startlingly refreshing, with a dash of lemon juice and the tropical scent of mimosa blossom. Just hop in the shower and rub, rub, rub!”

This product is amazing because it does such a great job of exfoliating. I normally shower, turn the water off, dry off a bit and then apply the scrub and rub, rub, rub! It gets rid of any dead skin cells, and leaves your skin wonderfully smooth, moisturised and fragranced like summer. I love the fact that it has so many scrubbing beads, which really do work. I would definitely repurchase. I’m just not excited that it contains SLS. *On the label, one of the suggested uses is to use it as a shampoo to boost volume, as salt helps to add volume.

You Snap the Whip – R105.00 / 95g

Hardcore body scrub and butter bar to show skin how to behave. It’s black, fruity and it scrubs your skin really, really hard. Get soaked in the shower and start your punishment. You Snap The Whip forces your skin to submit to its pumice and charcoal regime. Once the wickedly effective exfoliation is over, it comforts you with luxurious macadamia nut oil and scents you with fruity blackcurrant and bergamot essential oils. Your skin feels as if you’ve just peeled off the old one and revealed a sexy new one (which you have, in a manner of speaking).”

First up, the smell is GORGEOUS! It smells beautifully fruity, like blackcurrant wine gums. I can’t get enough. It does a good job of exfoliating your skin, although not as good a job as Rub, Rub, Rub. The sad thing about it is that is gets used up so quickly, but if you want it to last longer, switch the water off while you use it (but don’t dry off whatsoever, like you would with RRR). If I had to choose an exfoliator, I would go with RRR.

Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner – R255

A beautiful, rose jam scented body conditioner that’s full of the most emollient, moisturising ingredients possible to feed and nourish the skin. There’s cypress oil, capuacu butter, Brazil nut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter and super softening almond oil, along with Argan oil of course, which is rich in vitamin E and incredibly moisturising and soothing on the skin. There’s also a touch of spring water to cool the skin down. The 20% glycerine locks in all this moisture, leaving your skin soft, smooth, supple and the fragrance leaves you delicately scented like a rose bush being kissed by the first rays of morning sun.”

I may have found my new favourite body creme. It is super lush, thick and creamy and it hydrates your skin beautifully. It’s not too heavy on the skin and feels so kind and nourishing. The only thing is, I don’t think it smells very rosy. Boyfriend says that it smells like cinnamon – his olfactory cells aren’t always spot on – but that’s how un-rosy it smells, and I can’t quite expand on how it smells, because I’ve never smelled something like it. Once it’s dry, it almost has a scent similar to that of Elizabeth Anne’s baby lotion. The bottom line is that it’s nice and comforting.

Overall I’m very impressed by Lush and I am very eager to try out some of their other stuff. Thankfully, when I run out of Rub, Rub, Rub or Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, I’ll be able to order from Lush’s online store.

P.S. A little birdie told me that Lush will soon have a store in JHB. We wait!
