Review | Beauty Blender

Move over foundation brush, there’s a new applicator in town! The Beautyblender is the new go-to tool for professional makeup artists and was developed by Hollywood make up artist, Rea Ann Silva. Basically, its a foundation applicator, similar to those small triangular sponges, but it does a MUCH better job.

What do they claim?

Beautyblender’s patent-pending elliptical shape makes application foolproof by allowing you to access hard-to-reach areas with stunning ease. Its suede texture is sensual to the touch and its unique curves fit the contours of your face, leaving your make up dazzling and undetectable. Beautyblender is latex free, non-allergenic and odor free.”

How You Use It

Run the Beautyblender sponge underneath some lukewarm water, and you will see that it expands almost to double its size. Gently squeeze it to get the excess water out and then wrap it in a towel and squeeze to make sure that it isn’t too wet.

The Verdict?

You can’t go wrong with the Beautyblender. Whether you choose to bounce it on your skin or roll it, you end up with a flawless finish. The water in the sponge helps to ensure that a) the sponge doesn’t soak up all your foundation and b) that you don’t end up with a thick layer of foundation on your skin.

What I like about it

•  It’s easy to use

•  It leaves a smooth, flawless finish to the skin

•  I found it to be the best tool for applying foundation (versus my fingers, my foundation brush, an airbrush aerosol applicator and those sponge wedges)

•  It deposits just the right amount of foundation onto your skin (not too much, not too little)

•  It doesn’t suck up too much foundation (compared to sponge wedges)

•  It’s a gorgeous shade of  pink!

•  The egg shape allows you to get in small corners like the inner eye area

What I don’t like:

• It’s a little more time consuming than a foundation brush or your fingers as you have to wet it before and then clean it afterwards, so don’t use it if you’re in a big hurry

• I went out and bought a bottle of makeup remover, just to clean my Beautyblender, as I think don’t harsh soaps are good for its lifespan

* There are Beautyblender wannabes out there, and I saw some purple ones at Clicks, in the shape of an hourglass. I can’t guarantee that any other product claiming to be a Beautyblender will work as well as the original Beuatyblender that I have tried and tested.
