Review | Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara

When I received Maybelline’s Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara, I was excited by the prospect of a plumping and lifting mascara that gives you a winged look. Long lashes and a winged eye without liner – what else could you want, right?

My thoughts

Maybelline describes the brush as “the short bristles of the unique wing brush add volume and lift, while the long bristles stretch lashes for a winged look that’s as fearless as you“. They also suggest that you start at the root of your lashes, holding the brush with the bristles facing upward and use the longer bristles on the outer corner of your eye to stretch out your lashes. I tried it and it works. You have to switch hands and the brush positions for each eye, otherwise the wrong side of the brush does the outside lashes.

When I first opened it, I was quite surprised by the brush. The brush is more of a comb, with three rows of tiny teeth in the centre. The comb is curved so it hugs your lash line, depositing pigment onto the base of your lashes. It really gets your roots, so it kinda makes you look like you’re wearing eyeliner.

The best thing about this mascara is that you don’t need to use an eyelash curler. When I apply it, I hold the brush just above the base of my lashes for about 10 seconds and I have the perfect curled lashes! The formula is also super duper. It doesn’t flake and washes off easily.

What I don’t like

If you’re not careful from the get go, and even after a couple of coats, your lashes can clump together. But if you take the time to comb them through you should be ok. If not, it’s game over, because the formula sits at the base of your lashes and sticks them all together.

Overall, I really like this mascara. It definitely gives me length and lifts my lashes. Even though this was a media sample, I would repurchase. Available for R149 (on special for R119 at Takealot here) at Clicks, Dis-Chem and Foschini stores.
