The 2 Best Exfoliators Ever

By  |  0 Comments

As you age, there’s a slow down in cellular turnover. Your skin then has a diminished capacity to reflect light because of the dead skin cells just sitting there. Every dermatologist, beautician and skincare guru I’ve ever met has stressed upon the importance of exfoliating your skin to enhance product penetration and to renew your skin. I’ve tried a lot of exfoliators because I’m kinda obsessed with skincare, and here are my holy grail, all time favourite 2 exfoliators.

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

This mask has a cult following, because it works. It refines and renews skin. End. It’s a cocktail of four Alpha Hydroxy Acids including glycolic acid from pineapple, lactic acid from passion fruit, citric acid from lemon, and tartaric acid from grape. It also contains Papain from Mexican Papaya to gently exfoliates dead cells and Omega 3 and Omega 7 from Arctic Blackcurrant Seed Oil repair to nourish and soothe. So fruity!

It claims to renew the complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and dramatically improve skin tone for brighter, healthier and more radiant skin. It combats congestion, blackheads and blemishes and is also paraben- and sulphate-free.

The only thing I haven’t seen a difference in, is pore size. Other than that, it delivers on everything else. It smells a little citrusy and feels like you’re rubbing sticky marmalade on your face. Whenever my skin is super dry and flaky, this saves me every time! It’s normal to experience a little tingle upon first applying, so don’t worry. After I use it, my skin looks radiant, fresh, clear and just amazing! I use it every week and definitely notice a difference if I don’t.

Available from Woolies here or from Ren’s online store here for around R540. The online store often runs specials, so it’s worth getting it there.

I love this exfoliator and I will NEVER stop buying it.

Dermafix Derma Polish Enzymatic Exfoliator

My beautician recommended this exfoliator to me, and I’m beyond happy that she did. Not all exfoliators agree with my skin, but this one is so gorgeous and gentle, yet effective.

It’s a gentle daily exfoliator that accelerates healthy cell turnover by way of its blend of organic enzyme-rich powders that micro-exfoliate and cleanse the skin leaving it smoother and brighter.

It contains licorice and papain extract to lighten and brighten skin and colloidal oatmeal to balance the skin’s PH and accelerate barrier repair. It also doubles as a mask, which is really cool.

It comes in a plastic tub, in dry form. Upon opening, you need to tear open the packaging near the lid, based on whether you like the texture as coarse or fine. I prefer the coarse side, even though this is not a physical exfoliator.

Throw a heaped teaspoon’s worth of product into the palm of your hand and mix with some lukewarm water. Apply to your face and occasionally add more water into the mix as the water activates the enzymes. It’s best to do this while in the shower, as it can get a bit messy, especially in winter when you don’t want water trickling down into your PJ’s. I have managed to use it with my face over the basin, but I don’t get in there like I do when I’m in the shower.
