Like a London Garden after the Rain | My Burberry
Hi Lovelies,
If you are reading this post, I would highly recommend listening to this song while you do. Just click the play button and off you go!
Do you dream of owning your very own honey-beige Burberry trench coat, but currently don’t have the funds to do so? If so, I have a solution for you: My Burberry.
Inspired by a London garden after the rain, My Burberry takes its name from the affectionate way in which people refer to their Burberry trench coat. A timeless classic – the scent is the ultimate expression of the brand’s past and future.
Created by Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Bailey, working in collaboration with renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, My Burberry is a grand floral fragrance with an unexpected edge; the scent is confident and beautifully elegant, yet understated in a typically British way. Francis Kurkdjian comments: “We have created a beautifully crafted grand floral unique to Burberry – the perfect accompaniment to the Burberry trench”
the campaign
The new My Burberry fragrance campaign features British global fashion icons Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, shot together for the first time. Wearing the Sandringham trench coat, Kate and Cara embody a sense of individuality, optimism and legacy as encapsulated in My Burberry.
the fragrance
The composition opens with sweet peas and citrusy notes of bergamot leading to geranium, freesia flowers and golden quince in the heart. The fragrance is rounded up with patchouli in the base, joined by rain-tipped Damascus and Centifolia rose.
Referencing the Burberry trench coat colour palette, the My Burberry juice is reminiscent of the signature honey shade, one of the three colours used in the brand’s Heritage Trench Coat collection.
Kurkdjian said the fragrance was inspired “by London, an urban garden. You have the vibrancy of the city, so it is something contemporary. You have the garden. You have the flowers…and the art of gardening, which is very important for the British. The flowery aspect of the perfume comes from that idea of the garden after the rain. You have the lush wetness. You have the soil. You have the earthiness. All of these feelings.” As for his choice of notes, he said he wanted to evoke “the feeling of the light of London: clouds, wetness, rain, flowers.” It is “Very British. It is not fruity, fruity. It is fruity floral.”
My Burberry smells like standing in the middle of a beautiful garden full of sweet peas, freesias and roses right after the rain! It is truly amazing how well the essence of that beautiful after-the-rain scent was captured by the fragrance. It is a really lovely floral scent, but is almost an anti-floral floral scent, if you follow. It is floral, but not overwhelmingly so, and has a crispness to it. It is beautifully light, elegant and feminine. It also has real staying power, and a little goes a long way.
the bottle
The glass bottle and overall design reflect the details of the Burberry trench coat: a bold horn-finish cap echoes its distinctive buttons and the hand-tied knot is English-woven gabardine (made of the same fabric as the Burberry trench from a factory in Castleford, Yorkshire), honouring the fabric invented by Thomas Burberry over 100 years ago. The bottle is presented in a trench-coloured box. The gold lined interior is embossed with the iconic Burberry check design.
