June Loves

1. Buying: In my attempt to add another pair of flat boots to my collection (every girl needs at least 3 pairs right?!), I lapped Sandton twice in the hope of finding the perfect pair. To my despair, nothing grabbed me. Suddenly, the next day, it was as if I hit the shoe jackpot! At Rosebank, I managed to buy three pairs of gorgeous shoes on the same day. Within the space of one hour! Clearly the shoe goddesses were beaming down upon me. I digress. Back to the boots: I found a gorgeous pair of flat black leather riding boots at Zoom for the bargain price of R1299. The other two lovelies come in the form of a pair of Louboutin inspired black spiked loafers from Luella and and a pair of wedge sneakers from ALDO.

2. Reading: Now that I’ve finished Season 2 of New Girl, I am getting my fix from Volume One of The Douche Journals – The Definitive Account of One Man’s Genius. So funny!

“Before Jess was the new girl, there was Nick, Winston, Schmidt . . . and The Douchebag Jar. Originally devised to do nothing more than alter Schmidt’s wardrobe, hairstyle, and personality, the Douchebag Jar has become an apartment-wide phenomenon, forever changing the way douche-like behavior is viewed, policed, and penalized.

Compiled and annotated by Schmidt himself, The Douche Journals catalogs the jar’s first years in existence. Every jar-worthy outfit, faux pas, and innuendo is captured exquisitely and for all time, transporting fans and scholars alike into the inner orbit of a master douche at the height of his powers. Comprehensive, unflinching, and fully illustrated, The Douche Journals delves deep into the annals of douchery.”

3. LovingThe new fragrance from Estée Lauder – Modern Muse. The duality of this scent is really amazing: sometimes feminine and floral, other times mysterious and woody. And let’s just talk about how cute the bottle is with its navy bow! (Only available in S.A. from 3 October 2013.)

4. Beauty: I am paranoid about crows feet, so eye cream is an absolute must for me. I have been using and loving Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Re-Creation Eye Balm and Recreation Night Serum for Eyes for the past ten days and am loving it.

5. Eating: You only have to look at the 30 Day Snap series to see that I am utterly and insanely obsessed with peanut butter. That said, the most delicious thing to have emerged from Winter 2013 is peanut butter hot chocolate. Yes. I said peanut butter hot chocolate. When cravings strike and I’m not near a Mugg & Bean, this is what I do: I get some Nestlé hot chocolate powder ready in a mug, and on the stove, heat a cup of milk, a 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla essence and a generous tablespoon of peanut butter until the milk is boiled and the peanut butter melted (I use a whisk for this). Add to your hot chocolate powder, and top with cream (if you want to be extra naughty). Its not as good as the real thing, but when the urge arises, it must be satisfied.

6. On my Wishlist: The Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120mm in nude. The fuchsia pink is SO beautiful, but in terms of practicality, the nude wins. And if I’m going to be spending R6000 and up, I need them to work for me! Watch this space

What couldn’t you live without this June?
