Luscious Lashes

When I wear makeup, I like to look like I’m not wearing makeup, to create the effect that I obviously wake up looking that amazing. There are a few things that I consider necessary for this natural beauty look: even skin tone, a healthy glow, a bit of colour, rosy cheeks and a defined eye. What defines your eyes? Eyelashes! Nothing else makes your eyes look more open and appealing than your eyelashes. Where would Kim Kardashian be without them? There are two options that can help to amp up your lashes: mascara or eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions have to be touched up every other week, which works out to be quite pricey and can be time-consuming. This leaves me with the other option.

I have been travelling down this road for quite some time now, buying and trying every new ‘it’ mascara. In my search for thee mascara to create thee perfect lashes I narrowed down the industry favourites and read review upon review until my eyes went red. I followed this up by visiting the makeup counters of my top 3. That’s how committed I am. You know what they say: ‘Good things come to those who wait but better things come to those who don’t give up’. My persistence has paid off in the form of lovely, luscious, long, lustrous lashes.

Enter my two new favourites: Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum Active Plumping Lash Primer (say that quickly!) and Esteé Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara.

The Diorshow primer has a brush that separates your lashes and almost sets them that way for your mascara application. A lot of people have said that their eyelashes have actually grown longer and fuller from this serum/primer combo. I’ll keep you updated.

I feel I have unlocked one of womankind’s biggest life mysteries: how not to get raccoon eyes ever. Use a lash primer! I feel so smart! You see, mascara sticks to lash primer, ensuring that by the end of the day, you look fresh, instead of like a raccoon! Yay!

Esteé Lauder’s Sumptuous mascara delivers the right amount of product and I like that that brush is thinner on the tip, which makes it easier to reach those inner corner lashes. The packaging is also beautiful.

You want proof, don’t you? Well, here it is…

This is my naked eye versus the same eye with one coat of Dior primer and one coat of Esteé Lauder’s Sumptuous mascara.

How do you use these products to get amazing, natural-looking, volumized and lengthened lashes you ask? I would recommend that you do each eye separately (yes, I know it takes more time, but its worth it) because once the lash primer is dry and you try to add a coat of mascara, you might get a less-than-desired effect. Start by curling your lashes for 10 seconds and follow up with primer on both upper and lower lashes. Immediately follow by a coat of mascara. Wait 5 seconds and then repeat with a second coat of mascara. Done! Beautiful lashes that will last all day. Don’t you love that?
